........don't forget yours

I had heard of Facebook a while before I joined and always thought it was for high school students. But at the request of some friends I decided to join the revolution. I was surprised to see so many people I knew on it. And every time I checked my page there were requests from friends from past lives who were looking to reconnect. It's facinating to me to have my own little portal to the world. People I probably would never have seen again, are now once again a part of my life. Old high school friends, old bosses, old boyfriends and just those people you just somehow lost track of. It's quite addictive just waiting for that next unexpected note or request from someone you haven't seen in years. I could do without some of the crazy applications and requests to do stuff....take this test, poke this person, send this person some fliar...let's not get carried away. My inbox much becomes like the trunk of my car......I just ignore all the stuff that has somehow piled up until I can no longer close the door. I should probably read some of that stuff, but that would take effort. I could also do without the "you've been tagged in a photo" thing. People, Don't tag photos of a person when it's a horrible photo and should be burned. For example: when your friend is obviously waisted and sticking her tounge out at one person while simutaneously trying to talk to another person...don't tag the photo! Unless you hate that person...in which case....tag away! How about some more useful applications. Like "this guy is single and wants to date you" tags or maybe "your girlfriend is cheating on you" tags. But all in all the facebook thing is pretty fun. Off to feed my addiction now....

GOOD MORNING
So, I participated in a photoshoot today. I always enjoy the opportunity to do something new and different, especially when I'm getting paid for it. I played a couple of different roles and it was fun to get out of the office. But I had to get up at 5 AM in order to be there by 7. Anyone that knows me, knows I am NOT a morning person. I rarely speak before 9 AM......and that is with coffee. I just don't function well in the AM. I am definately a night owl. I can stay up all night and not think twice about it, but try and get me out of bed before 8 and I will not be a happy person. I have just always been more productive at night. I don't really understand those people who rise at 6AM because they just magically woke up refreshed and ready to start the day. These people facinate me. I'm surrounded at work by "Morning People" and I find it very stressful to arrive at work to see their bright, happy faces staring back at me and to hear the unison "good morning" greeting from them as if they were so excited to start the day that they were waiting in eager anticipation for anyone to arrive that would give them an excuse to say just these words. It takes every ounce of effort for me to utter the words back to them as if I really mean them, but really I'm thinking...."why did I get out of bed and how can I avoid speaking to these people until I've had at least 2 cups of coffee". But eventually my morning fog dissapears and I am functional once again. Thank god for coffee.

REGRETS?
I have one......
I once saw my favorite actor of all time in a little tiny theater in London, just by chance, because he was in town with his family and his son was performing down the street. No one seemed to recognize him at first. He was just another patron, there with his family to take in a show and maybe do some Christmas shopping. (It was over Thanksgiving weekend)But being my favorite actor, I noticed him right away. He was with his wife and 2 boys, just quietly meandering through the lobby of the theater waiting for the doors to open. We all stood and chatted amoung our groups and I contemplated what to say to him. I didn't want to be that annoying fan that ruined his night with his family. So, I was running through all the different things I could say to him without sounding like a completely idiotic crazy fan. But I just could not bring myself to turn around and face him to say hello. Instead, once everyone was seated I stalked him and watched his every move and even then, i was swimming in regret for missing my one chance in life to talk to Tom Hanks. How, in all the places, in all of time and all of the famous people out there......... did I come to be in same place with Tom Hanks in a situation where I could have simply said hello and shook the mans hand. The Gods were giving me a present that night and I just turned away. But I did learn one thing......take every opportunity you get, cause it may be your last one.

DON'T LOOK AT ME!
I have recently started taking the metrolink into work every morning...
1) because it's the responsible thing to do for the enviroment
2) because if I don't, I inevitably arrive to find there is a Cards game which means I have to pay $20 for parking or park 12 blocks away
3) because I rather enjoy taking public transportation
This is not a new experience for me, as I lived in Chicago for years and did not own a car. I very much liked taking public transport and having me time on the train to read, listen to music, whatever. Taking the train here is a bit different and some of the people seem to not have gotten the memo about social rules on the train. There are unwritten rules for taking a train or bus that everyone knows, but it seems that many folks in St. Louis have somehow not picked up on these cues.
1) Do not look directly at anyone. Even if the train is body to body and your face is planted up against someones forehead, look away. Even if you can't see them, staring at your shoes is always a safe option.
2) Wear deodorant. This should be a life rule, but in a situation that warrants you to thrust your armpit up against someones face because you are holding onto a rail to keep your balance , you may want to wear a little deodorant.
Just a thought.
3)No singing on the train. No you are not a thug or the next Eminem, so put some pants on that fit and stop singing in my ear. I'm trying to listen to the Indigo Girls on my MP3 player.
4)Do not talk to your neighbor. You are old, I am not. No I am not in college and I don't want to talk about my day or your health issues. Here is a hint....if I'm wearing headphones...I DON'T WANT TO TALK.
If everyone follows these simple rules, we'll all have a happy commute.
Good Day fellow commuters. I'll see you soon.

FEELS LIKE HOME
Every time I come back to Chicago, I feel like I'm coming home. It's an amazing, beautiful city. It's got some amazing architechture, entertainment, culture and it's quite a diverse city........all the things I love about city living. But I'm quickly reminded of why I moved, when I come to visit over the winter. The winters are brutle here, but the summers make up for it. There are an endless aray of outdoor festivals and concerts, etc. throughout the summers and just to wake up to the view of the lake is amazing.
We took an architechture cruise today and it was great. After living here for almost 5 years, I had never gone on one, but it was a great way to see the city from a different perspective and gain a little knowledge about the city I once called home. It also really made me want a boat.
I am very much looking forward to enjoying my weekend in Chicago.....a little shopping, a little Second City, a little bar hoping to my favorite spots and of course seeing old friends. And somehow we got lucky enough to have some unbelievable weather for our visit. Thank you, to the powers that be..
Now off to have some wine.
