NKOTB IS BACK

Yes, that loveable boy band that I adored as a kid, is now back out there for a whole new generation to enjoy...or make fun of.......we'll see. The New Kids On The Block have released a new album and are once again on tour with all the original members. Now, they are all in their late 30's and early 40's and it's been 15 years since they have performed. They have all had various jobs and some have been much more successful than others, but they are back for an encore performance and much to everyones surprise, they are being welcomed once again by their adoring fans. There are sold out concerts in many cities and they are adding shows due to the response and demand. I don't think anyone thought their resurection would be this well recieved, including the band themselves. I, for one, fully intend to see the boys who once graced the walls of my bedroom from floor to ceiling. I was never allowed to go to concerts when I was a kid, so this is my chance to fulfill one of my childhood wishes. I'll be seeing you soon boys.....

HURRICANE SEASON, ROCKS!
How do I find these people? Or more importantly, how do these people find me.......
So, we stopped into Walgreens to grab a contact case (which first of all is funny, because i brought enough stuff to live here for 6 months and the one thing I forgot is a contact case...anyway...) and our check out girl was chatting us up about Hurricane season. She first lectured us on the do's and dont's of preparring for a hurricane...."Make sure you have lots of cash on you at all times, you never know when one will hit and the ATM's go out and you're screwed" Then she went on to let us know how thougourghly excited she was about the approaching hurricane season. "June 1st is the beginning of hurricane season and we're gonna have a rockin' one this year. It's been 2 years since one has hit and this year is gonna be great!" Yes, she said the exact words..."we're gonna have a rockin hurricane season this year" Wow. Really? I mean.....really?
I met someone today who seemed pretty normal who told me this attitude is actually not that uncommon around here. However that would be the equivalent of me getting excited about the tornado season in St. Louis....."Tornado season is gonna be awesome this year. I can't wait to see my car being tossed into the stadium by a rockin' funnel"...................

BEACH FRONT RETIREMENT CENTER

Ashley and I got into Ft. Lauderdale Thursday night around 7. Just enough time to introduce her to the ocean, jump in for a bit and then go to dinner before crashing after our marathon 19 hour drive. I've been to Florida, but never to Ft. Lauderdale. Not really what I expected. It's kind of all over the place. Very wide variety of people and very different experiences in various areas. Our hotel is apparently in the old part of town. It's right on the beach, but there are some scary old people here. I saw a woman who must have been close to 90 and it looked like you could have just peeled her face off because she was way too tan and she had soooo much make up on .......and obviously the 80 plus years she spent in the sun prior to that had not helped her to age well. And her lips were popping off of her face, due to the bright fushia lipstick she had on. Wow.
And there is some sort of interesting lounge act going on in the bar area. An old man in white pants keeps singing renditions of newer songs in a Sinatra kind of way. We almost stopped for a bite in there, but after entering and stopping abruptly in our tracks when the music hit us, we promptly high tailed it out of there in search of a place that doesn't cater to the early bird crowd.
Everything is kind of spread out here and we had a hard time just finding a restaurant that was open at 10 PM. Weird. But the view from our room is fabulous and we're so close to the beach that you can feel the spray from the ocean from our balcony.
All in all not bad so far. I'll just steer clear of the lounge and everything should be ok.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
So, I'm on my way to Florida. My niece and I left yesterday and we made it all the way to Canton, Georgia, ....at least that's where i think I am. In my delerious state at 3:30 in the morning, I just pulled over at the closest place and asked for a room. In any case there is an overabundance of Pecans here so I'll be all set should there be a nut shortage in the near future. Who new that Georgia was all about the pecans.
Anyway sleep was good. Much needed after a day of chaos and driving. But the first leg of the trip was pretty uneventful. Just a lot of driving and a lot of listening to music. We made it about 12 hours, without getting arrested for speeding, which I think is pretty good. So, now we are off to finish the last part of the trip. Ft. Lauderdale, here I come! I can't wait to see the ocean. We have been apart for far too long.......

GOOD HAIRCUT, SAD LIFE
Quote of the day. Such a good line I had to catalog it. While having a casual conversation with my bosses about our favorite lunchtime sub fare, I mentioned that I have recently become addicted to Jimmy Johns. I only really like the tuna sub there, but it's really good. ANd then we were discussing Quiznos and I said I liked the turkey/quac sandwich, to wich my boss said I was exotic. I don't know what planet he comes from, but I'm pretty sure it has to be the same one Jarod, of Subway, is from. Since apparently he only likes bland, tasteless sandwiches on stale bread. But my response was that I like to live it up with flavorful, interesting sandwiches and my other boss thought that was quite sad.....that my idea of living was eating sandwiches smeared with quacamole from Quiznos. Hence the quote...."Good haircut, Sad life"
At least he liked my haircut............

THE COUNTRY IS SCARY
So, I went to my sisters house Friday night to dogsit while they were out of town and I confirmed what I have always known......i could never live in the country. As soon as I got there it started storming like crazy. Tons of lightening and wind and the rain was just pouring off the roof. The Satellite went out, the electricity went out and i was sitting in the middle of knowwhere............. in the dark with nothing to do. One of the dogs was totally freaked out and wouldn't get off of me and all I kept thinking was that the house was going to be picked up in a tornado like in the Wizard of Oz. ANd there are no warning sirens out in the country, so it's not like I would have known if something was about to happen. So, I camped out in the basement and drank by myself until about 3 in the morning when the storm subsided. Now that's some Friday night fun.
But then I went to the wineries the next day and all was right with the world once again.
